"Play That Funky Music" es una canción escrita por Rob Parissi y grabada por la banda Wild Cherry. El sencillo fue el primero lanzado por el sello discográfico Sweet City con sede en Cleveland en abril de 1976 y distribuido por Epic Records. El rapero estadounidense Vanilla Ice lanzó más tarde una canción con una interpretación de "Play That Funky Music". Basado en este sencillo, el sello discográfico independiente Ichiban Records firmó un contrato discográfico con Vanilla Ice, lanzando el álbum Hooked en enero de 1989, que contenía "Play That Funky Music" y su cara B, "Ice Ice Baby".
El compositor Robert Parissi no fue acreditado. Posteriormente, Parissi recibió $ 500,000 en una demanda por infracción de derechos de autor.
Aunque inicialmente no se puso de moda, su cara B , "Ice Ice Baby", ganó más éxito cuando un disc jockey tocó esa pista en lugar de la cara A del sencillo.
