Alive - Bee Gees (1972)

"Alive" es una balada grabada por los Bee Gees para su álbum To Whom It May Concern. Fue el segundo y último sencillo del álbum lanzado el 10 de noviembre de 1972 en todo el mundo. La canción fue acreditada a Barry y Maurice Gibb y producida por Gibbs y su manager Robert Stigwood.

Fue otra balada de piano (habitual para los sencillos de Bee Gees durante este período), que Barry ha dicho que ni siquiera recuerda haber escrito. Como masterizado para el álbum, el rango dinámico inherente en la voz y el piano desafortunadamente se ha comprimido casi hasta desaparecer, pero todavía se presenta como una balada expresiva.

"Alive" se grabó el 21 de octubre de 1971, y "My World" también se grabó la semana anterior. El trabajo de batería de Geoff Bridgford en esta canción, hizo su última aparición como en cualquier otro sencillo de los Bee Gees después de su partida en enero de 1972 (El sencillo anterior, "Run to Me", fue grabado después de la partida de Bridgford). 

La versión remasterizada que se encuentra en Tales from the Brothers Gibb aumenta un poco el rango que falta en el lanzamiento del álbum original. El sencillo alcanzó el puesto 34 en las listas de Estados Unidos en 1973 y debutó en el puesto 63 en esa lista. Fue el último top 40 del grupo en Estados Unidos y Reino Unido hasta "Jive Talkin'" en 1975. "Alive" fue el último lanzamiento del grupo en el sello Atco. En 1973, el manager de los Bee Gees, Robert Stigwood, formó su propio sello, RSO Records, donde los hermanos Gibb disfrutaron de su mayor éxito. En el vídeo promocional del sencillo, que se hizo originalmente para el programa de televisión holandés TopPop y se emitió el 23 de diciembre de 1972, Maurice aparece por primera vez tocando el piano, con Barry y Robin apareciendo solo sosteniendo un micrófono.

Billboard llamó al sencillo una "balada dinamita y conductora".
